Committee Management & Sub Committee Member

We are inviting Antrim Chamber of Commerce members, at all career stages, to apply for a role within the Chamber of Commerce Management Committee and/or Sub Committees

Antrim Chamber of Commerce is striving to be a powerful collective influencing voice. We are here to advocate for members interest, promote pro-business initiatives, provide networking opportunities and valuable business connections, as well as helping to address challenges faced by the community. But we can not do it without active committee and sub-committee members.

Why would you be interested in becoming a Chamber of Commerce Committee Member?

Ultimately, joining a committee provides an abundance of opportunity for your personal and professional development.

Whilst you do have to put in the work to derive any real benefits and it is a dedication of time, you are exposed to both operational and strategic delivery simultaneously. Joining the Chamber Committee, provides you with the opportunity to be exposed to all these areas; whilst at the same time; holding a different level of responsibility and accountability perhaps not experienced in your day role.

It is a fantastic opportunity to develop your management and leadership skills with a team whose day roles are diverse within different sectors, so helping to build your business network.

  • To be eligible for any of the committee roles, your organisation needs to be a current member of Antrim Chamber of Commerce.
  • All committee roles are voluntary.
  • For all roles, applicants should be prepared to commit around 1.5 hour/week including attending meetings and delivering on the role/s outside of meetings.

The Management Committee is a group of people elected annually by the wider membership to run the ‘business’ of the Antrim Chamber of Commerce for that period.

As a member of the Management Committee you are effectively the steward of the organisation for that period.

Your role and duties includes:

  • To represent all the Chamber of Commerce members who make up the constituents and elected you to represent them
  • To keep the Chamber of Commerce focussed on achieving its aims as set out in the governance documents – i.e. the constitution
  • To be open, transparent and accountable to the members
  • To conduct the business of the Chamber of Commerce to the highest standards.
  • To positively promote the work of the Chamber of Commerce to members and others organisations
  • To take joint responsibility for the finances of the Chamber of Commerce
  • To ensure that the Chamber of Commerce meets all its legal and funding criteria
  • To accept joint responsibility for the Chamber of Commerce decisions
  • To maintain a long term view for the Chamber of Commerce and leave a good legacy for those who follow

The Sub Committees are made up of both Management Committee members and other Chamber members who have a skills, knowledge or expertise in the particular sub committee area.

  • As a voluntary organisation with no paid staff, as a member of the Sub Committee you are effectively delivering on the actions of the Management Committee.
  • Making recommendations to the Management Committee for decision, although on some occasions the Management Committee may delegate aspects of decision-making to the sub committee
